Ever since he picked up his first 35MM, Bay Colter Johnson knew he was destined to become a visual storyteller. Born in Los Angeles to generational filmmakers, Johnson ignited his career at just 10 years old as an on-set camera operator. After a brief detour to study business at Concordia University, Johnson knew he needed to get back to L.A. to pursue his dream...

Inspired by his cinematic pedigree, Johnson launched his film career with visionary publication “Breaks Magazine” in Venice Beach, CA. Johnson cut his teeth working in commercial production, shooting urban street culture, and eventually graduating to music videos and surf competitions. Getting the opportunity to shoot legendary surfers Kelly Slater and John John Florence, cemented Johnson’s infatuation with the documentary genre and set the propulsion of his career...

To date Johnson has directed over 16 films, shot a docu-series for Nike, worked on 3 Super Bowl commercials, and traveled the globe filming documentaries unmasking social and environmental issues. His work can be seen on Amazon Prime, AMC, Air Tahiti Nui, and the NFL Network. Johnson's documentary "Chasing Begg Rock" was acquired for global distribution by Gonella Productions, and is currently being distributed in France. Vahine | te Moana: Girl in the Sea was presented with the 2018 award for  “Most Inspirational Film” at the Silicon Beach Film Festival.

Johnson’s production company LIFTED FILMS was created in 2014 and has completed over 16 projects. Wielding DJI Drones and the SONY Fs5, LIFTED FILMS has shot films on four continents with sights set on all seven.
